When it come to popping the question, does Greg ask Mycroft?

Does Mycroft ask Greg?

Does Anthea get fed up of them tip-toeing around the issue, sit them down and propose to both of them at the same time on behalf of the other?

Or do they decide that marriage just isn't for them and they're happy to live in sin for the rest of their days?

Quick proposal headcanons please!

This is definitely one of those "both, both is good" kind of questions.

I agree with [personal profile] anarfea, but my personal headcanon is that Greg asks Mycroft. Mostly because Mycroft is concerned that marriage has bad connotations for Greg after his ex-wife, and he's always a little nervous that this gorgeous silver fox is going to change his mind (because why would such a man be interested in his freckled saggy body forever?)

Greg, meanwhile, is in love with his boyfriend/partner/soulmate, and intends to prove it, because no matter how many times Mycroft has said marriage is just a piece of paper as easily forged as any other, Greg's not buying it.
Also, he really wants his ring on Mycroft's finger. And a honeymoon. And growing old together.

So he takes Mycroft to dinner, and dresses up for the occasion (Anthea provides the suit, because she's a gem) and he pops the question traditionally, with flowers, when they get home, in the sitting room, on one knee.

Mycroft cries. Anthea cries watching over the security feed. Greg doesn't cry, surprising himself, but that's because he's too busy holding his now-fiance.

I typically headcanon Greg as the proposer, primarily for the same reasons outlined above. Mycroft knows that Greg's first marriage didn't go well, and he's hesitant to ask him to go through it again. And really, a marriage certificate isn't really *necessary* for a long life together, is it?

I'm torn between the 'both, both is good' and something like: 'everyone write me a quickie fic on each option and then one of your own' because all, all are good — and then some!

Ooooh bless. Though if this is panicked Mycroft, consider “I have a confession, we’re married, they wouldn’t let me see you and I lost my mind” fic.

Triple points if Greg is more upset about losing his bet with John (who totally saw this coming) than he is about Mycroft marrying them while he was unconscious.

I think Greg asks Mycroft. He's the bolder one of the two, after all, although if it was something Mycroft actually wanted, it might be the other way around. I think if there is something Mycroft wants, he usually gets. However, my version of Mycroft usually fears rejection, so am sticking with Greg being the one to make the first move.

I can believe it either way, depending on how the author frames the story and their personalities. If I wrote it, and they did decide to get married, I think it would be Greg. But not until they get to retirement age, and that's when legal formalities make things like money and hospital visits easier.

I'll take either, but I have a preference for Mycroft asks, just because I think it goes against the grain of my expectation that Greg would ask first (he's done this before, Mycroft too scared he'll drive Greg away prematurely, Greg aware he's not exactly getting younger, Mycroft's insecurities about his looks). I want him to ask because it means he is so in love that he will bury all those other insecurities, take his heart in his hands and just DO IT.

I say that Mycroft plans to do it first but gets so bogged down in the details of how to do it, what to say, etc. that Greg ends up beating him to it.
